Wilhelm Ramsøe’s magnificent brass quartets brilliantly reimagine the Viennese classical string quartet tradition through the rich, resonant sonorities of brass instruments. These quartets stand as his most frequently performed, most effective, and most virtuosic compositions. Each piece follows a four-movement structure, with a distinctive feature: a grand, slow introduction preceding the first movement in sonata form, lending a festive and ceremonial character to the works.
Our new edition remains faithful to Ramsøe’s original instrumentation, Cornet in Bb, Trumpet in F (here transposed to Bb), Trombone, and Tuba, while also offering flexibility with substitute parts. The Trombone part includes options for Bass Clef (BC) and Baritone/Tenorhorn in Bb Treble Clef (TC). Additionally, the Cornet part can be played on a Trumpet, and the Tuba part is adaptable for Euphonium. This edition ensures accessibility for a wider range of performers while preserving the brilliance of Ramsøe’s original scoring.
